MY MEANINGFUL FAMILY TRADITION UNIQUE TO MY CULTURE

 CULTURAL IDENTITY

PROMPT

I specifically have two cultures both Kenyan and Ugandan, and they both have different meaningful cultures that they respect and are still followed till date. Kenya practices a ceremony (circumcision) especially for the boys in order to mark their transition to manhood which imparts lifelong clan and lifelong responsibilities, courage and moral instruction directly from community leaders and is initiated publicly early in the morning. for Uganda its basically about Marriage preparation where the brides aunt that we call (Senga) in Uganda from the parental side holds an advisory duty, counseling her on family values and marital respect and she also gifts the bride with essential domestic tools like a special knife, basket and a winnower to establish her new home.

SUMMARY

Today in class, we basically talked about the different cultures that people come from and how they grew up adapting to respect their culture.

REFLECTION

Learning about cultural identity really made me get to know that there are so many cultures that people agree and disagree to and also don't believe in some that so many others would respect and believe in, It also showed me that we are somehow different from each other according to cultural identity.
